How To Make A Natural Body Lotion

By preparing our own body lotion at home we can adapt it to our needs and include essential oils that will also give it a special and personalized scent.

Did you know that making a natural body lotion is pretty easy? In addition, we can always share it with our family or friends, who will be very grateful for the gift.

Ingredients to make a natural body lotion

Rose tea is an ancient remedy that provides multiple benefits to our health.

  • ¾ cup of pure oil.
  • Almond oil is recommended for its moisturizing and absorbing properties, according to the 2014 review on the use of medicinal plants in dermatology in the journal “Panorama Actual del Medicamento”. It can be easily found in herbalists.
  • A cup of rose water. In case of not having access to it, it can be replaced by normal water.
  • 2 teaspoons of beeswax, ensuring that it comes from a specialized store and making sure that the labeling confirms its natural origin and without extra preservatives or chemicals.
  • 30 drops of essential oil.
  • A good option for your natural lotion is lavender, not only because of how aromatic it is but also because of its well-known properties. However, although it has traditionally been used as an antimicrobial to relieve sunburn, for example, there are no studies scientifically supporting this use.
  • However, you can use different oils to be able to choose the one you want to use the most. The options are endless: orange oil, green tea oil, etc.
  • A glass jar that can be hermetically closed.

To make a natural body lotion it will also be necessary to have a mixer, a small or medium size glass container and a spatula to stir all the ingredients.

It is recommended that the products you use to make this lotion or any other aromatherapy product should not be used for other purposes.

The reason for this is that common materials in these mixes often leave residues that are very difficult to remove completely.

First phase

  • Pour the pure oil (almonds) into a glass container and then add the beeswax.
  • Put in a water bath in a pot so that the water covers half the glass container.
  • Heat until the beeswax dissolves and then remove from heat.
  • Let it cool for a minute or two, but not longer because the wax hardens very easily.

Second stage

  • Pour the rose water (or normal water) into a mixer and beat on high speed with the lid on.
  • Without stopping beating and uncovering only the auxiliary lid, pour in the oil and wax mixture so that a homogeneous mixture is created with the water.
  • When you have already incorporated the ¾ parts of the oil mixture, you can see how it begins to thicken. Finish the process.

Third phase

  • Add the 30 drops of essential oil of your choice.
  • Everything is mixed and we already have our natural body lotion.
  • The next step would be to put it in the jar for storage.
  • Finally, clean any lotion residue that has remained in the blender, with a spatula.

Uses and care of natural body lotion

essential oils for a natural lotion

This body lotion gives us great benefits that with daily use can help improve the skin.

The first of these benefits is the smoothness that you will obtain thanks to almond oil, which has also been widely used in the cosmetic industry to create masks, creams and other similar products. We have previously discussed its properties.

Essential oils are also of great help and the advantage of making your natural body lotion with them is that you will get the benefit that best suits your needs.

For example, if you are looking for relief from mild symptoms of mental stress and exhaustion and a sleep aid, lavender essential oil will be the ideal choice. These properties, as indicated by the EMA or European Medicines Agency in its monograph on Lavender, are exclusively based on a long tradition of use.

For the cold and flu season, some essential oils such as thyme can help you combat more common respiratory symptoms. Thyme is antiseptic, anti-inflammatory and expectorant, among other properties, according to research on essential oils from the department of pharmacological and toxicological chemistry of the University of Chile in 2010.

This natural lotion has a shelf life of 6 months, keeping it in a cool place or in the refrigerator.
