Nowadays, there is a tendency to opt for natural products, without chemicals, as it is believed that it is the best solution to avoid these setbacks. And it is that, sometimes, a bad choice can have serious consequences.

However, when it comes to preserving the health of the skin, it is best to consult a dermatologist about the use of new products, especially if there is a skin condition.

Beauty products with butylated hydroxyanisole or BHA

There are quite a few beauty products that use ingredients like hydroxybutylanisol (BHA). It is a component that is used to preserve and stabilize other ingredients, so it is very common to find it in a wide range of products.

Just take a look at the labels of items as diverse as body lotions and lipsticks to different medical treatments to realize it.

The problem is that it has been proven to be detrimental to the endocrine system and is beginning to be associated with certain types of cancer. However, there is insufficient evidence to establish this link.

    DMDM hydantoin

This chemical acts as a preservative ingredient. It is used for products such as shampoos, body lotions and masks for eyelashes, to last longer, which is why, at present, it is very present in practically all those for personal use.

Is it better to opt for natural beauty products?

As we have seen, there are some studies that suggest that prolonged exposure to these ingredients could have negative health consequences. However, more future research is needed.

As for the use of natural cosmetics, more and more people have substituted their daily care products for others with natural components. However, sometimes just because something is natural does not mean that it is risk-free.

Some formulations could cause irritation to the most sensitive skin, so in these cases it is always advisable to consult a dermatologist.
