Tricks So That Your Home Always Smells Good

Sometimes we go to great lengths to maintain hygiene in our home, and still can’t get it to smell as good as we’d like.

If this happens to you, do not worry because we will give you a series of tricks to ensure that the spaces in your house remain with a good aroma.

1. Bet on odor neutralizers

baking soda

There are some very interesting odor neutralizers on the market. An example is sodium bicarbonate, which is a product with a great capacity to absorb odors.

As Joe Schwarcz, director of the McGill Scientific Society, explains, most bad odors come from high levels of PH produced by bacteria. Sodium bicarbonate has the property of neutralizing the acidity of the PH, thus absorbing the bad smell.

All you have to do is put a little baking soda and a few drops of lemon in a container in different corners of the house. Of course, it is important that they are out of the reach of children.

Charcoal is another option you have. It is a very effective option to neutralize strong odors and for environments with high humidity.

To be effective you must renew it from time to time.

2. Mix water and white vinegar

Vinegar neutralizes alkaline odors and also eliminates odor-causing bacteria.

An advantage of vinegar is that its smell disappears quickly and does not leave the allergic residues of commercial air fresheners in your home.

To combat any odor that has been generated between stoves, just  mix equal parts of water and white vinegar in a container.

Then you can add some aromatic plant or citrus peels.

Leave it in the kitchen to absorb bad odors while you cook and voila. It is an effective remedy against the smell of tobacco and that you can apply anywhere in the home.

3. Make your home air freshener

Air freshener

To make an air freshener, just place  15 drops of lavender or lemon oil in a spray bottle filled with water, and  mix the ingredients well.

This preparation will help you perfume every corner of the house.

Home air fresheners are a great option to put next to windows, since the same air stream will circulate them and improve the smell.

4. Flowers, a natural option for your home

Gardenias, geraniums or orchids can be a good possibility if you are looking to aromatize the environments.

Jasmine flowers can also be a good option. Place them in a container with water and they will give off a great perfume.

5. Opt for homemade air purifiers

An air purifier is one of the most optimal possibilities in order to eliminate all kinds of odors and pollutants, such as viruses and bacteria.

This is a particularly useful option when you have pets, since it will make your house smell clean.

  • Natural vanilla flavorings.
To do this, you will only have to put a cotton ball impregnated in vanilla essence in a bowl and add drops every 6 hours.
  • Homemade pine air freshener.
To do this, boil three pine branches, two bay leaves and a nutmeg, to preserve the aroma for longer, do it over low heat.
  • Orange air freshener.
Cut an orange in half, empty it and fill the inside with coarse salt. Put it in a container so it does not spill and you will have a great home air freshener.
  • Rosemary air freshener.
Boil rosemary leaves for an hour accompanied by lemon wedges. Then add a few drops of vanilla essence, you can use this mixture for two days.
  • Air freshener based on dried flowers.
Coarsely chop rose petals, bay leaves, eucalyptus, thyme, and sage. Then mix everything well and use them in little bags. If you see that it is losing aroma you will only have to add a few drops of alcohol.

6. Do not forget to ventilate the house

Close the windows

Without a doubt one of the keys that you should not forget is ventilation. Ventilate your home every morning. This is a very important and easy point to make.

It will be enough for you to do it for 10 minutes to be able to renew the air and sweep away any bad smell that has remained in the environment.

Also, try that the ventilation has a current and that it is not circling inside the house so that it really has the desired effect.

The idea is that the air in your home is renewed and scented appropriately.
